STEM Update

3rd grade - Rube Goldberg Machines

The students completed a study on simple machines. We then took that knowledge and applied it to making a Rube Goldberg Machine. It became frustrating at times to keep setting up the contraptions and retesting but we learned a lot from the process.

Currently, we have moved to coding the Sphero Bolts. The students are using block coding to program the round robots. Please view the link above for the Sphero Bolts.

4th grade - investigating a crime scene

The fourth graders finished their semester on mysteries. We ended with the crime scene investigation, ¨Felix Navidad¨. It was a lot of fun and having the teachers participate around the building made it exciting!

We have now moved on to studying the Medieval times, learning to create blueprints and working as a team. Construction has begun on castles, trebuchets, battering rams and siege towers. The culmination will be the marshmallow battle to see which kingdom will reign supreme.

5th Grade- testing parachutes

In 5th grade, the students saw how much fun the third grade had exploring simple machines and Rube Goldberg Machines. So, we took a pause and studied the same thing with a fifth grade twist. All groups made successful Rube Goldberg Machines that popped a balloon. We have videos of each one. Now we are studying parachutes.
