tap & stack

This year, the fourth grade class is stepping up their game in responsibility and respect with exciting new initiatives and a fun cafeteria competition, all while maintaining a resource-saving strategy that has proven effective.

The students are on a mission to minimize lunchroom waste by encouraging everyone to “tap” leftover food off their disposable trays and neatly stack them. By stacking trays, they are making a big impact on waste reduction, as stacked trays take up only a fraction of the space in trash bags! So far, this effort has led to a remarkable drop from two full garbage bags to just half a bag!

In addition to waste reduction, homerooms are collaborating to keep their lunch tables spotless every day in the quest for the coveted Golden Dust Pan Award. Students are taking charge by cleaning up their own lunch areas after meals and lending a hand to their classmates.

To further promote resource conservation, all students are participating in a “share” table initiative. Here, students can place unopened food and drink items they choose not to eat, allowing others to take them for free. This thoughtful strategy not only helps feed hungry classmates but also significantly reduces food waste. Together, they are making a difference!
