On Thursday, September 30, fifth grade participated in Down on the Farm day by planting seeds and exploring vermicomposting.
Each fifth grade class used their comprehension skills to read seed packets. Students then planted their seeds in small cups according to the directions on the packets. Their plants will be transferred to the school garden sometime this fall.
Vermicomposting is an indoor composting option that involves worms in sealed buckets. Each fifth grader had the opportunity to get to know some of our worms and observe the creation of the compost buckets. The compost buckets that the fifth grade classes created will be emptied in our school garden composting bins in about 2 weeks. We hope to start a school wide composting program in the future.
All of the fifth graders enjoyed this day of learning!
