What is a school psychologist? According to the National Association of School Psychologists, "school psychologists are uniquely qualified members of school teams that support stu
dents' ability to learn and teachers' ability to teach. They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. School psychologists partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community."
Amy Ellis is the school psychologist at CNE Elementary and does all of the aforementioned tasks and more. But let's hear from her perspective...
1) What the heck do you even do?
That is the million dollar question! The best way to describe the biggest part of my role at CNE ES is that I collect lots of data and help the building use that data to support student learning. I also connect students with interventions, both academic and behavioral when the data shows they need it. I LOVE IT! I love seeing student data improve (and this year especially, we are really seeing that in leaps and bounds!). I also have run a skills group right now and that may be my very favorite part of my day!
2) What do you do in your spare time?
I love to spend time reading, walking/hiking, or watching soccer (Premier league or USWNT).
I also play A LOT of tennis (three, sometimes even four times a week).
3) Any strange things we should know about you?
-I grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
-I love P!NK's music and have been to WAY TOO MANY of her concerts to admit.
-I LOVE DISNEY WORLD
-I have an unhealthy obsession with Diet Coke (it's bad...really bad). I like it mixed with Pepsi in an 80/20 ratio.
4) Favorite quote?
Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can. -Arthur Ashe
Final question: What would we do without her? For sure, CNE Elementary doesn't want to find out!
