Fifth grade teacher, Amy Becker, took a few moments out of her busy life to let us in a few of her secrets.
What’s a typical Saturday night like for you?
We usually spend our weekends at our kids’ sporting events. With both boys playing basketball and soccer, our weekends are jam packed with games!
What is your dream vacation?
Anywhere with a beach! Add in historical site-seeing and I'm one happy girl!
What are some traditions or superstitions you have for the First Day of School?
Ever since I was a little girl, my dad would sing this horrendous back to school song. We always pretended to hate it but came to expect it. Now, my own kids have the joy of hearing the Back to School Song on the first day of school!
How do you remember all of your students’ names?
Knowing a person's name is so incredibly important and is key to starting those relationships. I tell my students on day one that I will remember their name by the end of the day. We go around the room multiple times that day repeating names. They get in line and get to sit down once I know their name. It's repetitive for the kids but the payoff is huge. On day two when I get to say good morning and use their name, the excitement is real for both of us!
What kind of driver were you when you first got your license?
I had to take my driver's test three times if that tells you anything!
Is there a quote or saying that you live your life by?
“If every person in this room made it a rule that wherever you are, whenever you can, you will try to act a little kinder than is necessary - the world really would be a better place. ”― R.J. Palacio, Wonder
