castles

We enjoyed learning about medieval times, because it challenged us to think about how the things were used and how their mechanisms worked.  The building part of the assignment allowed us to build one of the following items; a trebuchet, ballista, siege tower, barbican, battering ram or a castle. We chose the teams and we got to watch each other build and give advice to one another. Our building materials were;  craft sticks, hot glue, paper towel rolls, bottle caps, paper and cardboard

Two students chose to  build siege towers, three built castles and other students built a battering ram, barbican and trebuchet!  They were hard to build but it taught us how things can be built and improved our building skills. We know how to build things better because of this learning experience.

We also  learned that there is a king's chamber dedicated just for the king. We learned that a castle could have up to three different walls that the enemy has to get through if they wanted to attack. We learned that a catapult can launch cannon balls over 800 feet. Catapults helped the attackers throw cannonballs into the castle from long  ranges.
