On Friday, October 14, the most repeated words in fourth grade were "Best Day Ever!"  The fourth grade students went to Fort Ancient in Oregonia, Ohio for their first field trip since Covid.  For most of the fourth graders, that means they hadn't been on a field trip since they were kindergartners.  While at Fort Ancient, students spent their morning exploring the museum and its many artifacts, trying on native animal skins, and visiting the life-size wigwam and dugout canoe.  Students eagerly attempted to hunt for "dinner" using spears and atlatls and tried their hand at double ball, a precursor to modern day lacrosse.  After a short walk to the picnic area, hungry students inhaled their lunches and had an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful weather and check out the earthworks built by the native Americans thousands of years ago.

Sounds pretty good so far, right?  For some students, the day got even better!  All fourth grade students participate in an online research-based math program called ALEKS.  Each quarter students are expected to learn 50 topics that meet fourth grade math standards.  On Friday, all of the students (approximately 80% of the grade level) who met the first quarter goal of 50 topics celebrated with a pizza party from LaRosa's sponsored by a generous CNE Elementary supporter.

Field trip + beautiful weather + pizza party = BEST DAY EVER!
