Good afternoon Clermont Northeastern High School Parents, Caregivers, and Students,

We had a truly outstanding first 2 days of school this week!  Our staff focused on getting to know our students and building a foundation of positive relationships, knowing that students often “Don’t care how much we know, until they know how much we care.”

Your students were respectful and engaged over the last two days, especially as our teachers worked to establish regular routines and build a community of trust and respect.  As I mentioned last week, we also had station rotations today that reviewed our four PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) core values.  We wanted our students to know that this is not about following a lot of rules, just for the sake of compliance.  But those are expectations to help make the school and themselves a safe and better place every day.

One to focus on this week is: Be Responsible.  When we say this, we ask students to simply understand what that looks like in the classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, restrooms, extracurricular activities, parking lot, and with technology.  For example, we teach that being responsible in the classroom looks like following teacher directions the first time.  In the bathroom, it looks like being respectful of others’ privacy.  In the hallways, it means keeping your hands to yourself and your own property.

We often assume that students know these expectations - and most of them do!  By reiterating them today, we wanted to ensure clarity of expectations for all of our students for the rest of this school year.

Go Rockets!

WHAT’S NEW

Senior Meeting

  • This coming Tuesday, we are going to meet with our Seniors to review a few things to kick off the school year.  These include things such as Senior Parking Lot, Senior Sunrise, and the basics of college applications for those who are interested.

  • This will be the first of a good number of meetings we’ll have throughout the year, and I’ll be sure to follow up with the information through this newsletter.

WIN Bells

  • Many of you may have seen “WIN Bell” on your student’s class schedule for this year.  WIN simply stands for “Whatever I Need,” and the purpose of this bell is to help meet some academic advisory needs throughout the year.

  • We will have teachers working with students on grade checks and planning ahead for their success.  This will be a way for you to have an extra set of eyes on your student’s progress and successes, as well as another person to connect with throughout the school year.
